Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's visit to China has been scheduled. Oli is going to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin on August 15 and 16. He will leave for Beijing on August 14.

Krishna Bahadur Oli, the Nepali ambassador in Beijing, informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is doing the homework for the Prime Minister's visit. An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the preparations for the visit to China are in the initial stage and formal information will be given after the preparations are completed.

According to an official of the Prime Minister's Office, there is a possibility that Oli will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the summit. Modi is also participating in the summit representing the SCO member states. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Qian said at a press conference held last Friday that India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be welcomed at the SCO Summit. "Leaders of more than 20 countries and heads of 10 international organizations will participate in the summit," he said.

Nepal is a 'dialogue partner' country of SCO. This will be Oli's second visit to China after becoming the Prime Minister last time. He paid an official visit to China in the third week of November last year. At that time, the 'BRI Cooperation Framework' was signed between the two countries. But the BRI projects have not taken off.

Prime Minister Oli is also preparing to visit India from August 31. Although the Indian counterpart is going to visit at the invitation of Modi, it is yet to be formally announced. Indian Foreign Ministry Secretary Vikram Mishri is arriving in Kathmandu on Sunday to prepare for the visit.
