The special court in Kathmandu has convicted 9 people including Maoist leader Gagan Puri in the Baluwatar land case of Jhapa.

The bench of Special Court President Teknarayan Kunwar, Judge Muraribabu Shrestha and Ritendra Thapa convicted seven employees of Malpot and Napi and two landowners and sentenced them to fine and imprisonment. 

Puri has been sentenced to one year imprisonment and a fine of 20 lakh 83 thousand 671 rupees by the special court. The special court has given a verdict that according to sub-section 'j' of section 8 of 1 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 2059, the punishment will be the same as the original defendant .

The special court has ruled that the government land has reached the name of individuals with the direct involvement of the then Chief Surveyor Shashikant Jha, Surveyor Sitaram Yadav, Vindeshwar Panjiar, Surveyor Ramdev Mandal Dhanuk, Surveyor Vishnudev Yadav, Amin Lalitkumar Mandal, Naib Subba Rudra Prasad Shrestha, Surveyor Ramkumar Das and Surveyor Ganesh Kumar Dhimal. They have been sentenced to imprisonment from one year to three months and fined according to their role.
