It is said that with the connection of the system, in case of an accident or disaster, even the common people can send information through the device, immediately after giving the information, the siren will sound at the Armed Police Force Disaster Management School and it will be easy to reach the scene and search and rescue.
What you should know
The Armed Police Force (APF) has installed a 'siren' connected information system at two places in Chitwan and Dhading to search and rescue traffic accidents and natural calamities.
With the help of information technology company 'Luna GPS', armed forces have installed an electric device 'Internet of Things' (IOT) on Monday in Chitwan's Simaltal located in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29 and Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-7 Charaundi in Dhading.
According to Armed Police Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shailendra Thapa, the information system will be operated from the Armed Police Force, Nepal Disaster Management Training School at Kurintar. After that, it will be easy for the armed forces to reach the scene and search and rescue.
co-spokesperson Thapa said that with the device connection, it will help in the search, rescue and control of disaster incidents including accidents. "In case of any incident or accident around the area where devices with sirens are installed, local residents or anyone can send information from the scene. For that, they have to press the green button on the device for 10 seconds. After pressing the button, the siren will sound on the device installed in the Armed Police Force, Nepal Disaster Management Training School, Kurinkar," said Thapa, "After that, the location of the incident will be received on the monitor in the school and the security forces will immediately be mobilized for search and rescue. He said that this system will be effective and useful to reduce the loss of human wealth caused by
disaster management and vehicle accidents. Thapa says that if this technology can be installed on other roads that are considered to be a risk for disasters and accidents, the loss of life can be reduced.
On Monday, the Armed Police Academy gave training to the local residents on the use of connected devices on the highways in Chitwan and Dhading areas and how to provide immediate information about the incident. Apart from this, arrangements have been made for local residents from Narayan Ghat to Nagadhunga and those who have witnessed the accident in the area and can download the Luna GPS app on their mobile phones and give information about the incident. When you click on the SOS button inside the
app, you will see the four options Ambulance, Flood-Earthquake, Fire and Accident, the nature of the incident, when you click on it, you will get the information about the disaster management training school Kurinkar with details. An arrangement has also been made that the app can be downloaded and informed offline.
From Narayan Ghat to Nagadhunga, road accidents, floods and landslides have been causing loss of life and property every year. In such cases, lack of resources and trained manpower and lack of organized infrastructure have been seen as the main problems. The
accident and the natural calamity in the last two major accidents caused huge human losses. Due to the lack of timely information and search and rescue, there was human loss. On 28 June 2081 near Simaltal in Chitwan, a landslide threw 2 buses off the road into the Trishuli River and only three people in the bus survived by swimming. Out of 68 people on the bus, 24 bodies were found and 39 people are still missing.
Before that, on 19 June 2078, the bodies of 14 people were found after five buses were buried by a landslide in Jawang River located in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-10 of Dhading. Both the Simaltal and Benighat incidents happened at night and the delay in search and rescue caused unimaginable human losses due to the lack of communication after the disaster.
DSP Thapa said that now the general public can give immediate information about such catastrophic events and it will help the security personnel to be diligent in search and rescue as much as possible.
