In today's meeting of the House of Representatives, the MPs have demanded the government's response on the issue of a law to recognize polygamy. During the emergency meeting, the MPs demanded the government's response regarding the possible draft law on polygamy.

The parliamentarians have objected to the public discussion and news in the media that the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs is preparing a draft bill to legalize polygamy.

MP Sunita Baral called polygamy illegal and any attempt to recognize it was unacceptable and demanded a clear answer from the government in Parliament. The rate of violence against women is high in the society. The process of making laws on such a sensitive matter should be done in a serious and responsible manner,' she said.

Member of Parliament Rupa So. Shee (Chowdhary) also raised questions about the truth of this issue and said, 'Women are still struggling for their rights, at the same time the issue of legalizing polygamy is a serious matter.'

MP Rama Koirala Paudyal also said that the legal draft on polygamy did not reach the parliament and its discussion on social media and media was a matter of concern in itself. He pointed out the need for the ministry to publish a clear opinion keeping in mind the sensitivity of the subject.

Along with the controversy related to polygamy, the problem of farmers was also prominently raised in today's meeting. MP Ram Prakash Chaudhary said that even though the Terai-Madhesh region was declared a disaster, the farmers did not feel any relief. "Farmers are in trouble due to problems such as lack of irrigation, old deep tubewells being damaged and not working, lack of sufficient electricity infrastructure for irrigation, lack of fertilizer," he said.
