Maoist MP Rai's objection to the draft law allowing polygamy

CPN (Maoist Centre) Member of Parliament Durga Rai has objected that the government has written a draft to give legal recognition to polygamy under certain circumstances.

Speaking at Monday's meeting of the House of Representatives, MP Rai said  This is what she said. The government has recently prepared a legal draft to allow polygamy under special circumstances. In the draft of the

bill, provision has been made including allowing married men to have second marriages. The government is being widely criticized for creating laws that encourage gender inequality and violence against women.

Member of Parliament Rai said that if the law allows polygamy, violence against women will increase and men will become free, and she asked to cancel the draft.

She said, 'Why does the government want to make a law to exempt polygamy? I would like to ask those whose interests the law is being made. Are you ready to say "well done son-in-law" if your son-in-law marries a second time? Why does the government want to introduce a law that will increase violence against women and leave men alone?

She also condemned the draft bill.
