Lok Bahadur Thapa, Ambassador of the United Nations Permanent Mission in New York, was elected as the Chairman of the Economic and Social Council (ECSOC) on Thursday.
Newly elected President Thapa said it was a 'historic moment' for his country. Thapa emphasized on the need for effective implementation of initiatives including the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda by strengthening multilateral partnerships to give good results. "Good delivery is not only an option, it is a must," he said. Four vice-presidents have also been elected in the
council for the coming year. Among them are Amar Benzama (Algeria), Hector Gomez Hernandez (Spain), Wellington Dario Bencosme Castanos (Dominican Republic) and Paruir Hovhannisyan (Armenia).
