Ayodhyapuri of Madi in the southern part of Chitwan is a village very affected by the wild animal tiger. Surrounded by the forest of Chitwan National Park and Someshwar Hills, the entire Madi is a place full of wild animals.
Within Madi, Ayodhyapuri is considered to be more affected. Until the 60s, the incidents of one attack after another by wild animals in this place were very frightening, but in recent years, the incidents have decreased significantly.
How did the attack of animals including tigers decrease here? The number of all kinds of wild animals is increasing in the Chitwan park area. Shivji Gaik, Chairman of Madi's Ayodhyapuri Intermediate Consumer Committee, says that they have been conducting various activities and campaigns to educate the locals about the nature and habits of wild animals in order to avoid wild animals.
But what exactly has caused wildlife attacks to decrease? He said that it would be better if experts study and research about it. What is the fear of tiger? How much does it hurt when you have to watch your relatives and friends get killed by a tiger before your eyes? Rajendra Neupane of Madi Ayodhyapuri Bagai village has passed through this tragic situation.
21 years ago, five people from Ayodhyapuri Ganeshkunj village went to the forest to eat forest food. Rajendra is the elder brother of Padmalal Adhikari who is going there. Padmalal came from abroad. So Padam also included Jethan Rajendra in the team of five people who were going to have fun .
When Padam was about to return after enjoying the whole day in the blue lake (lake) in the forest far away from the village, Padam cut the stick saying that the tiger had come and chased it. "We were walking like this after cutting straw, and suddenly a tiger came from nowhere," Rajendra said. Rajendra says that the suddenly swinging tiger took away his son-in-law Padam with the speed of lightning. Looking at it, the situation there became horrible. Everyone started crying and shaking.
Rajendra dared to make a last effort to free his son-in-law from the tiger. The friend had a hat in his hand . The friend who was trembling with fear when asking for a card did not give it. He snatched it and threw it towards the tiger's tail. Then the tiger started attacking indiscriminately . He heard him shouting here and there. "Gyanu Tamang was the one who said, 'La dai, I'm going to die. You should stay away,'" said Rajendra.
Then he ran wildly . Saw a tree somewhere. He didn't climb a tree much, so he managed to climb it when he had no other means. It was evening. He thought, I was saved, what happened to the others? It was the time of Ounce . Pure darkness . He shouts . His voice is heard in that dense forest. The friends who went together do not say anything . Neither Ayo, nor Athu, nor Aso nor Uso . He thought 'No one was saved.'
Every now and then the tiger roared loudly. He opened his shirt and hung his life on the tree to see if he would fall from the tree. He could bear the hunger, but at night he was very thirsty for water. When he thought about the fear of the tiger, the condition of his friends, he tried to cry and cry, but when he heard the tiger roaring, he restrained himself . It was light, the tiger started coming around the tree he was climbing.
He got down from the tree after being very thirsty. He took this decision after the danger of fainting due to thirst increased rather than being killed by a tiger. But the tiger started to stop after a while . When the tiger followed him, he would plead with folded hands. He used to vow that 'O Devi, leave me alone, I will offer what you have to offer'. After a while, he heard the tiger and reached the village. He spent 17 hours alone in the place where there was a tiger that had killed so many people.
This incident took place on Chaitra 12 of the year 2060. Along with Rajendra's son-in-law Padam Bahadur, Gyan Bahadur Tamang, Sant Bahadur Praja Chopang, Sarki Damai and Brijman Tamang were killed by the tiger that day. Out of the 6 people who went to enjoy, only one Rajendra returned home . I still shudder when I remember that dark day. It seems like you don't have to go to the forest. But cows and goats do not go, Rajendra said.
Ayodhyapuri is a place where tigers and rhinoceros, wild elephants have been harassed a lot. There are others like Rajendra who have lost relatives, friends and brothers in this village. Earlier there were four Village Development Committees (Gavis) in Madi. Later all were combined to form Madi municipality. In Chitwan National Park, since 2054, the consumer committee was formed by declaring the settlements behind the park as an intermediate zone.
Media currently has 21 consumer committees and one subcommittee. The Ayodhyapuri Intermediate Consumer Committee, which was formed covering the entire Ayodhyapuri borough at that time, includes a partial part of the 7th ward and the entire 8th and 9th ward of the present Madi municipality. Where 2200 households live.
"Since the formation of the intermediate, 31 people have been killed by wild animals here," said Shivji Gaik, the intermediate president. 17 out of 31 people were killed by tigers in the details of the committee.
In the incident that happened on February 22, 2055 in Ayodhyapuri, the intermediate committee gave relief to the family of the deceased for the first time. At that time, Chis Bahadur Gurung was killed by a tiger. The second case of relief was also death due to tiger attack. After that, 16 people died after being attacked by wild animals in eight years till 22nd of December 2063. Out of them, 13 people died from the tiger . According to the details of
media, there have been no incidents of fatal attacks by wild animals since Baisakh 20, 2079. That last incident was also a tiger that killed a person . From 2063 to 2079, 15 people have died after being attacked by wild animals in a period of 16 years. During this time there were 4 people who died due to tiger attack . During this period, the attack of wild elephants seems to increase .
, compared to the first eight years, there has been a decrease in the number of human deaths caused by all kinds of animals in the last 16 years. On top of that, human deaths caused by tigers have decreased significantly. There is human settlement only on the western border of Ayodhyapuri. To the north is the dense forest of Chitwan National Park. To the south is the forest of Someshwar Parbat . There are tigers in both Chitwan National Park and Someshwar Forest.
The most 198 tigers in Nepal are in Chitwan Park. In October 2080, 14 tigers were found in the Someshwar area during a 40-day survey. Before that, in the monitoring of 2018, only three tigers were found in Someshwar area, there were eight tigers in the National Tiger Survey of 2022. The presence of tigers has recently increased in the forest area connected to Ayodhyapuri . But the incidence has decreased .
"First there was no fence between the forest and the village". People also used to go to the forest to graze cattle and goats. There was an obligation to cut grass, now it is less. Later we started fencing . We started to educate the locals about the nature and behavior of aggressive wild animals. The effect of this may have been seen," said Mathura Bhandari, former president of the Ayodhyapuri Intermediate Consumer Committee. He was the president for 20 years after 2059 . The current chairman of the
committee, Shivji Gaik, said that they are doing various activities in partnership with associations working in the park and conservation sector. Even when the number of animals has increased, it is a good thing that there are fewer incidents of local deaths. Finding out the reason for this would become a subject of learning elsewhere. So let's get to the bottom of it by doing a little study and research' urged the president singer.
