Tribhuvan University (Trivi) has received more than 450 applications for the appointment of professors, associate professors and deputy professors through the research specialty based method (fast track).

According to Bishnu Prasad Aryal, administrative head of the Tertiary Services Commission, 450 applications have been received for 130 posts. Monday was the deadline to submit the application by paying the double fee. He said that 457 applications have been received and they are being processed. It is reported that 183 people have applied for the posts of professors and associate professors and 274 people have applied for the posts of deputy professors. The commission published an advertisement in the second week of May and demanded 10 professors, 20 associate professors and 100 associate professors through this method.  Along with the

fast track, applications were invited for the posts of professors and associate professors through internal and open methods. According to the commission, 1 thousand 987 people have applied for the position of professor, associate professor and 4 thousand people for the position of deputy professor.

Those who have completed PhD and are involved in research are also going to be appointed as assistant professors through interviews. An official of the University said that there was a concern that the application would not be submitted as per the demand. He informed that most of the applicants have completed their studies abroad.

After the announcement of the appointment of professors on the fast track, the disgruntled partial professors and Akhil revolutionaries near the Maoist center even locked the offices of the Vice-Chancellor, Service Commission, Rector, and Registrar. Although the lock was opened after the order of the Supreme Court, the offices of the officials except the Vice-Chancellor are still locked. All the revolutionaries have stopped the officials from entering the university in protest against the fast track. On the other hand, the petition filed demanding cancellation of fast track method is pending in the Supreme Court. After the announcement of the advertisement, Democratic Professors Association, Nepal National Professors Association, Nepal National Professors Association, Nepal National Professors Association, Democratic Professors Association and Socialist Professors Association also protested. In the statement, the University has been requested to stop the process of selecting and appointing professors through interviews without written examination.

The University has also issued a regulation regarding the recommendation of teacher appointment through open competition on the basis of research specifics. In which the minimum qualification to apply is Ph.D. In addition to that, at least two research articles should be published in national and international journals for professors/associate professors and one in case of assistant professors.  According to the

regulations, the list of candidates who have obtained the minimum marks specified for research and publication of works will be published in the preliminary selection. It is mentioned in the regulations that the competition will be 200 points with 150 points for research and publication, 10 points for teaching service/research work experience, 20 points for research direction/research research award, and 20 points for interviews. After that, the initial shortlisted candidates will be interviewed and recommended for appointment on the basis of merit. There is a provision that foreign experts must be in the selection committee. Only those who get at least 70% marks in professor, 65% in associate professor and 60% in associate professor will be recommended for appointment. The age limit of professor, associate professor is 50 and associate professor is 45 years. This method is also practiced in neighboring India and universities around the world.

Former registrar and professor Chandramani Paudel said that the fast track method was started in the 70s to make the university a fast research-oriented university. Trivi became the head of education. A plan was launched to make the central campus a center of excellence to make research a priority. Accordingly, we started the semester system," he said. "Research-oriented manpower does not come through the regular process.

is trying to attract Nepalis who are proficient in research and teaching around the world. In the last year's policy and program of the University, it was arranged that only teachers who have completed their studies in the central departments can give lectures. He pointed out that even though the policy was introduced before that, the system cannot be implemented until the professors are filled through the fast track. It was a practice for teachers to teach and do PhDs at the same time. It limited the knowledge capacity of the university. This method is also necessary to prevent that,' he added, 'It helps to bring our university to the standards of universities in America and Europe.' Through the University Grants Commission, the University appointed professors and associate professors in 2073 and 2076 on the basis of research excellence. Rector Khadge KC said that the university had received positive results from the professors who were appointed at that time. In 2073, 5/5 professors and associate professors were appointed from the fast track.

In 2076, 5 professors and 26 associate professors of management, forestry, education and other subjects were selected. Former registrar Paudel claims that it has given good results. This time the scope of the subject has been widened by the University, so even the deputy professors are going to take this method. He suggested that the issue of selection of vice-chancellor should be reconsidered. In Nepal, there is no system for appointing teachers after testing nationality. "We should reconsider whether a written test is required while selecting deputy professors from the fast track," he said.
