Conflicts within Maoists surface

What you should know

After Deputy General Secretary Janardhan Sharma publicly criticized the working style of Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the conflict within the Maoist center has come to the surface. Accusations were exchanged between Chairman Dahal and Sharma from the public platform.

The latest series of accusations started after Sharma said that the internal democracy (democracy) within the party has ended and the leadership is corrupt in a program held on July 7 on the occasion of the commemoration day of Pushpalal Shrestha, the founding leader of the Nepali Communist Party.

The leaders who are close to the Maoist central office 'Headquarters' have started demanding an explanation from Sharma saying that he attacked the main leadership.

"Headquarters has taken Janardanji's leadership seriously," said a Maoist leader, "It will be seriously discussed in the standing committee."

Leaders have said that the allegations against Chairman Dahal will be discussed in the standing committee meeting of Maoists starting from July 16. Even in the standing committee meeting, there are signs that this conflict will intensify.

In this context, Deputy Secretary General Varshman Pun pointed to Sharma's statement and said that the act of weakening the main leadership will never be acceptable. In a video interview published on the Facebook page of the Maoist Center on Monday, he mentioned that internal democracy is a good practice within the party and said that Sharma's statement was wrong.

'In the past, we debated on this issue for weeks in the central officials' meeting. It's not good to have enough democracy, to have a discussion and then to put your point out again . It brings chaos within the party, it causes unnecessary factionalism and polarization in the party," he said. The tendency to make personal accusations and slanders when the leadership has done well, and to weaken the leadership is never acceptable.

Maoist's standing committee meeting starting from July 16 is scheduled to prepare the proposal of the next central committee. Pun says that the chaotic activities within the party will also be discussed in the standing committee. We will discuss this in the standing committee. "The committee will decide to take action against those who don't want to be converted despite this." Aiming at that, Sharma has requested to study the whole aspect of his expression on the social media about the party.

'My serious attention has been drawn to the comments about the party. I urge everyone to study the overall aspect rather than giving their own favorable interpretation,' he wrote.

Pun, who did not comment much about Deputy General Secretary Sharma, has this time accused him of factionalism within the party in a parallel manner. The party does not believe in bureaucratic system. He speaks wherever he finds himself. Talking about the leadership, talking about the party, commenting anything about the comrades, going beyond the policy and rules of the party. There is a tendency to do things on their own against the accepted direction of the party,' says Pun, 'the party has been discouraging the tendency to work in a parallel manner and factions in a way that weakens the party. This tendency must be discouraged.'

He said that after President Dahal has successfully carried out the government and political campaign, he is being attacked from inside and outside the party. "When leadership is successful, deviations are seen from another angle," he said.

Deputy General Secretary Pun and Sharma stood together at the National Conference of All Revolutionaries in October 2081. At that time, they complained that they had reconciled and said that there was no conflict between the two leaders. Lately, the Deputy Secretary General has been working as an unannounced 'chief advisor' to President Dahal, while another Secretary General Sharma has been publicly making accusations against the President .

In the standing committee meeting held in July 2081, Deputy Secretary General Sharma gave a 14-page long opinion and demanded that Dahal's party system is not democratic, that the leadership should be transferred, and that the ideological policy should be clear. His opinion was discussed in a 'consultative meeting' in all seven provinces. Maoists called it the highest exercise of internal democracy.

After that, the relationship between Dahal and Sharma could not improve . The central committee in December last gave him the responsibility of the head of the organization department. In the first week of May, when the highway campaign focused on the Madhyapahari Highway reached Rukum West, Dahal had said that "the party will not lose its way if some people lose their way". Deputy General Secretary Sharma was shocked when he said that it does not matter if a person left the party in the case of a person who was with him in the war in his district. While bidding farewell to Dahal from Rukum Paschim, Sharma said on the street that 'this expression should be reviewed'. After that, the question and answer between Dahal and Sharma has been going on in the public forum.

President Dahal mentioned that Deputy Secretary General Sharma was walking around playing Singauri in a program held in Kathmandu on the occasion of Pushpalal Shrestha's memorial day on July 7 and said that being generous towards it was his weakness . "My weakness is to be a little generous towards different opinions. "I have not taken any action," Dahal said, "Mohan Vaidya, Baburam Bhattarai, Ram Bahadur Thapa have not been expelled from the party." It is also not true to say that some friends are not given accommodation. I have given enough discussion environment.'' Dahal pointed to Sharma and continued, 'Even now, some friends seem to be able to play Singauri a little.' I have given them plenty to play. I went around the country for a month and a half consulting, what is the practice of democracy?' If the main leadership does not corrupt, 60 percent of corruption will be reduced. Apart from Manmohan Adhikari, there has been extortion from the rest. This is not an accusation, he said that the internal democracy within the party is weak.

'There is a tendency to bless those who praise leadership . Criticism cannot be heard within the Communist Party. We have talked about democratic centralism in the party. "Democracy is over," he said, "centralization has turned into bureaucracy." He said that the communist parties of Nepal have been transformed into feudalism. "The Communist Party has become like a feudal herd," Sharma added, "I am not blaming a particular person." This is the trend.'

Another Deputy General Secretary Haribol Gajurel said that the conflict within the party has come to the surface. "The internal conflict has been seen publicly," he said, adding that Janardanji publicly questioned the leadership. This is a serious matter,' he said, 'it should be discussed in the standing committee.'
