The Inspector General of Nepal Police and Armed Police have made it clear that the purchase of arms for Nepal Police and Armed Police is being done according to the law.
Answering the question raised by the parliamentarians based on the published news that weapons are being purchased by reviving the old contract, both Inspectors General said that the necessary weapons will be purchased according to the law .
In the meeting of the Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee under the National Assembly on Friday, Inspector General of Nepal Police Deepak Thapa and Inspector General of Armed Police Raju Aryal stated that the issue of arms purchase is not against the law as it was made public.
Nepal Police Chief Thapa said that it was not a matter of arms purchase as it was publicly reported in the news. "The issue of arms purchase has been reported in the newspaper, it will be different if it is reported in the newspaper. But we have also read the topics that came there, I don't think that is the case. That kind of instruction has not been given by the secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, nor by the Minister of Home Affairs,' Inspector General Thapa said. This is to be done through a systematic and parliament-made act, rule, and law.'
Thapa said that it is not true that the contract was won by the old weapon . He says that the allocation is in the red book of the budget and there is prioritization in it. He informed that 500 crores have been allocated for the construction of buildings for the police. About the allocation for the police in the budget, he added, 'The subject of weapons is also a subject that comes under our ceiling . What we need are non-lethal weapons, like tear gas cells, rubber bullets, barricading vehicles.'
IGP Thapa said that the procurement of arms will be done in a transparent and accountable manner.
Armed Police IGP Aryal made it clear that the purchase of weapons will be done according to the law. "Regarding the purchase of weapons, nothing is bought that is not an illegal weapon." There is no purchase contrary to the rules, if we have to buy medicine pills according to the procurement law, then these pills . There should be no doubt here, no action will be taken against the rules,' said IGP Aryal.
