Kathmandu brought a budget of 25.76 billion

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has brought a budget of 25 billion 76 crore 43 lakh rupees for the next financial year 2082/83. Deputy Chief Sunita Dangol submitted the budget for the next financial year in the 17th Municipal Assembly of the metropolis held on Sunday.

The metropolis has estimated that 25 billion 114 million rupees will be spent from the accumulated fund and 65 million rupees from other external expenses in the budget. It is estimated that 20.12 billion 63 million will be managed in the accumulated fund by internal income and bank balance of the metropolis, while it is estimated that 4.98 billion 79 million will be received from the federal and state governments for conditional and equalization grants and revenue sharing. It is the amount from the sale of land from the land consolidation project operated within the metropolis under external expenditure.

The metropolis has proposed 51 percent of the total budget for infrastructure development, i.e. 12 billion 800 million 83 lakh 14 thousand rupees. 20 percent of the budget i.e. 5 billion 28 million 68 thousand has been proposed for social development, 3 percent i.e. 75 million 34 million 30 thousand for economic development. 12 percent i.e. 3 billion 137 million has been proposed towards good governance and interrelated sectors. 14 percent i.e. 3.51 billion rupees has been proposed for office operation and administrative sector.

In the next financial year, the metropolis has given high priority to infrastructure plans, said Deputy Chief Dangol. The metropolis has planned to increase employment and income by promoting garbage management, improving the school education system, increasing the capacity of the urban health promotion center, and promoting one ward one production program. Similarly, the budget has been managed in noise pollution control, public transport management, protection and promotion of historical, religious and archaeological heritage sites.

Deputy Chief Dangol before presenting the budget, Metropolitan Chief Balendra Shah presented policies and programs. He said that cooperative reform, 'Sports Academy', Entrepreneurship Club and other programs will be conducted in public schools.

Similarly, the metropolis is going to give a 10 percent discount to taxpayers who pay taxes by the end of December to bring everyone under the tax regime. Deputy Chief Dangol appealed to realize the objective of developing Kathmandu as a clean, green, cultural and vibrant city.

Similarly, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has spent only 52.13 percent of the total budget till June 25 of the current financial year. Only 13.374 billion has been spent till that period out of 24.90 billion 63 million budget. 15.6 billion 56 lakhs have been allocated for capital, only 6.73 billion 74 lakhs have been spent. Which comes to 44.72 percent.

9 billion 82 million 20 million 50 thousand rupees have been allocated, 6 billion 22 million 99 million have been spent. Which is 63.42 percent of the total budget. In terms of revenue, only 10.985 million has been collected out of the target of 12.90 billion 63 million set in the current financial year.

Indralal Singh, a local intellectual of Kathmandu, said that independent and party-elected chiefs, deputy chiefs and ward presidents should work together for the benefit of the metropolis as a whole. "Manpower, money and project management should all work together," he said.

Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality Spokesperson Naveen Manandhar said that if one tender fails, the budget could not be spent because it would take months to open another one. "The problem is that the central government is not interested in managing the waste," he said.

Chief Shah and Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragai were unable to hold an executive meeting since the 8th of January due to a dispute regarding the approval of the construction map of the Kathmandu Tower building located at the old bus park. Because of this, the budget of the metropolis has been delayed.
