After a woman died of snakebite while sleeping in Chhaupadi Goth in Krishnapur Municipality 1 of Kanchanpur, the district administration office has instructed all local levels to start a campaign to demolish Chhaupadi Goth. Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal gave instructions to all the nine local levels of the district on Monday.
28-year-old Kamala Auji Damai, who was sleeping in Chhaupadi Goth on Friday, died on Saturday after being bitten by a snake while undergoing treatment at Seti Provincial Hospital in Dhangadhi.
Chief District Officer Dhakal has instructed all local levels to take necessary decisions and organize the campaign as a special campaign has to be conducted to end the traditional bad practice by demolishing Chhaupadi Goth.
On Sunday, Krishnapur Municipality also instructed all ward offices to demolish Chhaupadi Goth. It warned that legal action will be taken along with a fine of 10,000 if Chhaupadi Goth is not cleared within 15 days.
