Janjyoti Basic School located in Lirapaja, Darma Rural Municipality 2 of the district has started teaching from this academic session in an unorganized room made of plywood on two sides in a building that was left with only a slope during construction.
Even though there is a school building, the construction of the building was started with a budget of 70 lakhs of the provincial government, and the building was stalled due to lack of budget addition, so the school started teaching in the plywood room.
If it rains, the water gets inside, they cannot sit when there is a wind and they have to sit on a mat on the dusty floor. Due to the coldness of the floor of the unorganized room, the students have started falling sick . The school said that the students' lives were also at risk because it was open on all sides.
Students have stopped going to school due to lack of movement management. Karna Bahadur KC, the headmaster of the school, said that although the school was established in 2046, there is a building in Lirapaja, but according to everyone's advice, the school was moved to an abandoned building that only had a slope, and because there was no surrounding wall except for pillars, classes were conducted with plywood.
He informed that when 52 people had to be kept in one class, the students were facing problems due to cold, rain and wind. According to the request of the provincial government to move the school to a suitable place to increase the number of students, the construction of a building was started in Sangata, which is 15 minutes away from the previous school. Last year, due to lack of budget, the construction work was stopped in the middle . So far, the construction work has not progressed,' he said, 'even if they have laid mats on the cold floor and seated the younger and older students on benches, they are seeing problems.' He says that up to 15 students are absent from school every day due to the lack of movement management. Chandrakala Khatri, a teacher of the school said that it is the rainy season and it is very difficult to teach the children when the rain falls inside.
Even though there is a school building in the old location of Lirapaja, it was cracked due to the earthquake and because it is dangerous to teach students in a cracked room, the small children are in more trouble than the teachers when the school is moved and the classes are held in the abandoned building, Ramesh Khatri, the chairman of the school management committee said .
Reshamm Wali, the chief administrative head of Darma Rural Municipality, said that when the school was moved on the pretext that it would be suitable for everyone, the students were more in trouble than teaching. He informed that there is no decision about moving the school.
"After the students got into trouble during the rainy season, we have instructed the school to move the school to its old location and resume teaching until the building is completed," he said. He said that while the state government was constructing the building, the rural municipality allocated the budget for the construction of the building which was stalled last year and the work will start soon.
Chairman of Darma Rural Municipality Nim Bahadur KC said that this year the municipality has allocated 30 million budget to complete the abandoned building despite the state government neglecting it. He said that since the school year will be on vacation in the next few days, the construction work will be continued after the vacation.
