The presidents of Independent Students' Unions of various campuses have demanded that Swaviyu be represented in the elections at Tribhuvan University.

The 16 presidents of New Union, All-Revolutionary and Independently elected Swawiyu have put forward the demand that students should participate in tertiary education through open competition, election or some specific method. There is a provision to nominate the presidents of SWU in the University Assembly (Senate). It is the practice of the university to nominate students from the presidents of the university on the recommendation of the student organizations such as Navy Sangh, Aneraswaviyu, Akhil Krantikari and others.

Swaviyu presidents who were elected last March demanded that recommendations should be made through a certain method and process instead of being directly nominated. The Prime Minister and the Chancellor elect student representatives to the Senate on the recommendation of the University.

Swaviyu presidents of Trichandra, Padyakanya, Janprashasan, Bhaktapur, Sanothimi, Thapathali Engineering and other campuses have demanded that senate members be elected to represent all the elected. In the joint statement issued by them, they also expressed their displeasure that the representatives will be selected in a clean and opaque manner. They say that a procedure should be made to select members from among the presidents of Swawiyu in the Senate.

They also objected to the fact that the senate meeting was held without a student representative last Thursday.
