A corruption case has been filed against 6 people, including Sunil Paudel, the then executive director of the National Information Technology Center, who is accused of corruption in the procurement of equipment.

In the financial year 2076/77, the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority has filed a case in the special court on charges of corruption of around 16 million rupees during the purchase of equipment related to 'high computer infrastructure' for the center in the financial year 2076/77.

According to Rajendra Kumar Paudel, the spokesperson of the Authority, without master plan, the Center officials, employees and contractors prepared and invited bids for a cost estimate of Rs. However, the Authority has made them defendants for damaging government property by purchasing equipment contrary to the originally specified terms and conditions by entering into a purchase agreement for low-quality equipment at a high price.

The authority has imposed a fine of Rs 150,885,000 against the then executive director Paudel and demanded a fine and imprisonment as per the requirement. According to the authority, additional punishment was also demanded for Paudel for committing a crime as the head of the office.

Paudel was the managing director of Nepal Telecom when he was arrested by the authority. He was suspended after filing a case after his arrest and was dismissed. After leaving the Executive Director of the Information Technology Center, the then government made him the Managing Director of Telecom . It was revealed from the investigation that he had caused a huge loss of money to the state by arranging technology-related contracts while sitting in both organizations.
