Negotiations have started between the protesting doctors and the government. Discussions started on Tuesday evening in the Ministry of Health and Population regarding the solution to the problem of the doctors' movement.
They are protesting at the call of the Nepal Doctors Association after the consumer court ruled that the treatment was 'medically negligent' and ordered the hospital and the doctors involved in the treatment to pay compensation in three different cases. Agitated doctors staged a protest at the Maitighar in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
On Monday, the doctors who stopped the service in health institutions all over the country, except for emergencies, have warned that they will take them to the Nepal Medical Council and submit their certificates.
Since the establishment of consumer court last March, 15 cases related to consumer rights have been registered. Among them, 5 cases are related to healthcare. The demand of the Nepal Physicians Association is that the Consumer Protection Act should be amended as the Medical Council decides the dispute related to the treatment.
