It is difficult to travel in the lower part of the Narayangadh-Butwal road section of the East-West Highway. There is a compulsion to stay in traffic jams for hours and in the fear of the vehicle slipping even when it rains normally, the passengers have to stay in the uncontoured forest of the mountains.
At around 11:30 pm on the 5th of June, the diversion of Vinay Khola in Dumkibas was washed away . At the same time, passenger bus No. 1 B 4085 tried to cross the diversion. The dam of Khare river that came up did not allow the vehicle to cross the diversion. The vehicle drifted in the middle.
Passengers panicked, appealed for help to save . Eyewitnesses caught in the jam informed the police. After about half an hour, security personnel came with an excavator and rescued 24 passengers who were appealing for rescue by sitting on the roof of the car. There were 38 people in the bus and the rest of the passengers jumped to save their lives.
On 28th of January, the bridge of Vinay Khola was washed away due to the impact of the Indian waves. Passengers have to suffer a lot when this diversion constructed after that gets washed away even in normal rains.

When traveling on this road section, you have to walk only by looking at the clouds in the sky . Although the bridge that was washed away in this rain has not been repaired, the new bridge that was built during the road expansion has been opened from the 21st of June.
There was a traffic jam in Downne for 12 hours on Saturday . Passengers stuck in traffic for 12 hours had to walk during the night to cross seven kilometers from Dumkibas to Downe Mandir Gate. Muna Poudel, a passenger, complained that it took 4 hours to cross the lower section when the road was one-way traffic near the Vishwakarma temple in the lower section on Monday too. Shiv Khanal, information officer of the Narayangadh-Butwal road project, said that the road near the Vishwakarma temple was washed away and although it was repaired with gravel, the traffic was affected due to the large vehicles getting stuck.
Even though the traffic is planned to be operated smoothly, the road will collapse and become slippery after the rains.

After the work started during Narayangadh-Butwal road expansion, the traffic movement has been blocked the most on the lower road section between Dumkibas and Bardghat .
According to District Traffic Police Office, East Nawalparasi, the road has been blocked 63 times from May 25, 2081 to June 9, 2082. This also shows how difficult the journey on the southern road section is. According to Chief Janak Banjara of the District Traffic Police Office East Nawalparasi, the road gets muddy when it rains heavily and the vehicle cannot go up and down and it is more of a problem. In this rainy season, the administration has been suggesting to use an alternative route instead of traveling on this road section.
The road that was supposed to be built in 44 months was not built even in 7 years
The government has prepared to extend the deadline for the fourth time as the commuters and locals are suffering due to the delay in road expansion . The construction was supposed to start in March 2075 and be completed in July 2079, but the deadline for the third extension is ending on July 8.
The deadline was extended until July 11, 2080 for the first time due to the Corona havoc, construction materials. The deadline was extended for the second time till July 8, 2081, after the work did not speed up even in the first extension.
But after the work was not completed for the second time, even though the deadline was extended for the third time up to July 8, 2082, only 70 percent of the work has been done so far.
114 km road project has been divided into 2 sections and the contract has been signed. After the work is not completed even during the third extension, there is a preparation to extend the deadline for one more year .
Nawalpur 65 km road from Gandakot to Daune is being worked on in two areas under section 'A' and 49 km from Daune to Butwal under section 'B'. The highway is being expanded at a total cost of Rs 16 billion 995 million with loan support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
