Adherence to Blood Transfusion Quality Standards: Red Cross Society

The Nepal Red Cross Society has said that it has drawn attention to the attempts to spread fear and confusion among the people by raising question marks on the quality of blood circulation.

Red Cross made it clear today through a statement that as mentioned in the Nepal Government's National Blood Transfusion Policy 2071, it is providing services by following the standards of blood donor selection, blood transfusion testing, and maintenance of equipment according to various technologies and charging a fee set by the Nepal Government and the Ministry of Health.

Nepal Red Cross has stated that it is open for investigation and monitoring by the Nepal Government, World Health Organization and a team of experts. . Pawan Gupta, director of the Central Blood Transfusion Service, informed that the suggestions received from the investigations and monitoring are being implemented gradually as far as resources and means are available.

Red Cross is currently providing blood transfusion services by mobilizing volunteers at more than 100 locations at the provincial and district levels, including the Central Blood Transfusion Service. It is mentioned in the statement that the service has been provided through the use of reagents, tests and equipment listed in the World Health Organization and the service of the Nepal Red Cross Society has been mentioned in the National Blood Transfusion Policy itself. 

The blood transfusion service established in Nepal in 2023 by Nepal Red Cross has been given policy responsibility since 2048 according to the National Blood Transfusion Policy 2071 and the guidelines approved by the Ministry of Health and Population of the Government of Nepal  The service has been operating.
