Pashupati Dayal Mishra was arrested by the police from Dhambozhi Chowk today in the Karnali Bikas Bank scam case in Nepalganj.
CIB Superintendent of Police and spokesperson Yuvraj Khadka informed that Mishra was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) and taken into custody at the District Police Office, Banke.
'He has been detained for investigation in the bank's scam case,' he said. Mishra, a leader who emerged from the Madhes movement, was a candidate from Banke Region No. 2 in the 2074 House of Representatives election.
Independent political group, he contested on Surya election symbol but was defeated. Later he joined UML. Along with Mishra, the number of those arrested in the fraud case has reached three.
Earlier, the then finance chief Devprakash Singh Thakuri and the founder chairman of the bank, Rajendraveer Rai, have been arrested. According to CIB, an investigation is being conducted in coordination with Nepal Rastra Bank for the offense under the Banking Offenses and Punishment Act, 2064 against the arrested persons.
A complaint was lodged in the said bank saying that there has been embezzlement of 2 billion 50 crores. The special investigation committee formed under the chairmanship of the chairman of the board of directors of the bank, Dr. Omprakash Mishra, concluded that there was a large amount of fraud.
