The main opposition party CPN (Maoist Centre) has said that the Speaker should take responsibility for the fraud during the 'cooling off period'.
In a press conference held at the party's central office Parisdanda on Wednesday, the Maoist center announced that the leadership of the parliament (Speaker Devraj Ghimire) should take responsibility for it on the basis of ethics.
At the press conference, the spokesperson of the party, Agni Prasad Sapkota, said that a serious question had arisen as the provision regarding the cooling period was not presented in the House as agreed in the committee. He noted that the matter was not merely legal or procedural but a serious political, constitutional, legal and ethical question.
He said, 'What was agreed upon in the committee regarding the cooling period, has been changed when it was presented in the House. How was the matter that was passed in the committee changed in the House? Who added the conflicting provisions? Many such serious questions have been raised.' According to
spokesperson Sapkota, this incident has raised serious questions about the honesty, integrity and competence of parliament, parliamentary committees and MPs. He alleged that this incident has attacked the spirit of the sovereign parliament, betrayed and humiliated the parliament, and hurt the essence and spirit of the constitution.
He added, 'Contrary to people's expectation that it will be a milestone for good governance, there has been a serious betrayal. Such fraud has given a vertical challenge to the parliamentary values. Looking at the process from the agenda to the passage of the bill, this is not the misadventure of a single person, it is a well-planned audacity.'
The Maoist center has demanded to investigate the facts of this type of serious crime as soon as possible and take action against the culprits.
Spokesperson Sapkota has also demanded the passage of the School Education Bill as agreed with the teachers' federation.
