Traffic has been brought into operation from Tuesday afternoon by building a diversion in Binayi river of Dumkiwas. After the water level in the river decreased, the traffic was brought into operation by constructing a diversion there.

Inspector Rajan Timilsina of the area police office Dumkiwas informed that the diversion was carried out by the flood that occurred in Vinayi River three days ago. Hundreds of cargo trucks and lorries, which were stopped at Dumkiwas and Bardghat after being unable to cross after the diversion, are heading towards their destination. Traffic has been operating in the diversion since 4.00 pm on Tuesday.

Diversion was constructed here 11 times during the period of 6 months after the iron bridge of Vinayi Khola at Dumkiwas on the Mahendra Highway in East Nawalparasi was broken. According to Timilsina, all those diversions were swept away by the flood. When there was a flood, it was drained and when the water dried up, the freighters and long-distance vehicles were being made to cross by constructing diversions.

The head of the eastern section of the road project, Ishwar Bahadur Rizal, said on Tuesday that there is a possibility that the diversion will not be constructed after the vehicles stopped around the south road were made to cross. He said that even if it rains now, the diversion will not be constructed for a day or two.

Rizal said that there will be no more diversions in Dumkiwas' Binayi River as traffic will be operated from the concrete bridge built on the Vinayi River next Saturday. He said, 'Cars don't stop at Dumkiwas anymore.'

When there is normal rain, the traffic is stopped due to the vehicles getting stuck in the mud on the Down road section.

The Chinese contractor company China State Engineering, which is working on the upgrading of the Mahendra Highway, has been negligent in its work, and the vehicles are stopped for hours when there is normal rain in Daunne.
