Construction of a diversion road is underway in Binayi Khola at Dumkiwas to allow the hundreds of vehicles that have been stopped for three days to cross the lower section of the Mahendra Highway.
As the water level in the river has decreased, the diversion work is being done there on Tuesday.
Three days ago, hundreds of cargo trucks were stopped in Dumkiwas and Bardghat areas due to the diversion of Vinayi. Freight vehicles are being diverted from the diversion road. Small vehicles and passenger buses are passing through Hongxigate-Sardi.
District Police Office Dumkiwas police inspector Rajan Timilsina informed that after the construction of the diversion, all the freighters and empty trucks stopped on the Mahendra highway will be crossed.
Diversions have been constructed here 11 times in a period of 6 months after the iron bridge of Vinayi Khola at Dumkiwas on the Mahendra Highway in East Nawalparasi was broken. When there is a flood, it drains away and when the water dries up, the freighters and long-distance vehicles are being made to cross by constructing diversions.
The head of the eastern section of the road project, Ishwar Bahadur Rizal, informed on Tuesday that the diversion will not be constructed there after making the stopped vehicles pass around the south road. He said that the vehicles will not have to stop at Binayi Khola in Dumkiwas as traffic will be operated from the concrete bridge constructed on Binayi Khola next Saturday.
