Mahesh Kumar Nepal, who has been recommended for the position of member of the Judicial Council, has promised to initiate the appointment of judges on the basis of merit and demerit if appointed to the Judicial Council.

Speaking at the meeting of the parliamentary hearing committee held on Monday, Nepal said that the appointment, transfer and related actions of judges will be carried out fairly according to the constitution and laws without prejudice.

He said, 'I would like to inform you that action will be taken regarding the appointment and transfer of honorable judges on the basis of merit and demerit without taking any bias. I will follow the constitution and the law impartially. I will remain committed to the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Nepal while being fully responsible for the Constitution.'

Nepal made it clear that it does not discriminate and treat anyone unequally on the basis of faith. He also expressed his commitment to act in accordance with the constitutional principles of proportional and inclusive representation and to continue to strive for the establishment of a fair and transparent court.

He added, 'I will continue to strive for the enhancement of judicial discipline and public faith in the court. I will always be responsible and accountable for the work I do.'

Commitment to support the Chief Justice

Proposed Member Nepal has pledged to personally support the Chief Justice as the main responsibility for the administration of justice rests with the Chief Justice even though the judiciary and the people working in the law sector and judges also have duties and responsibilities. He said that he will continue to improve the dignity of the judiciary.
