Since the fraternal organization started running only on ad hoc basis, two central members of the Tarun Dal have started a fast to death at the door of the Congress Party Central Office from Sunday. Central members Rodan Rai and Ambika Baskota have started a hunger strike.

Demanding to ensure the convention of Tarun Dal, they have started hunger strike from the day before the meeting of the central working committee of the party. The meeting of the party central working committee is sitting at Sanepa from Monday and the agenda of the meeting of the central working committee includes the issue of expired fraternal organizations including Tarun Dal.

Congress joint general minister Dina Upadhyay and central member Jitjung Basnet demanded that the hunger strike be postponed as the meeting of the central working committee will start from Monday. On the request of Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba, the hunger strikers have said that they will not suspend the hunger strike until the demand is met.

Tarun Dal, which has a three-year tenure, has not been able to hold its convention for seven years. A new working committee was elected under the leadership of Jitjung Basnet from the convention held in Pokhara in 1972. The leaders selected the leadership and some office bearers on the basis of division without holding elections in the convention. After the party convention of 078, the working committee was dissolved and the party central working committee formed a new ad hoc committee under the chairmanship of Bidhan Gurung. Although an ad-hoc committee was formed with a mandate to conduct the

convention, the Gurung-led committee has not been able to make any preparations for the convention even after three years have passed. The hunger strike members demand that a new ad-hoc committee should be formed with the assurance of the convention by disbanding the current working committee, which has not even prepared for the convention and has no faith to do so.

The ad hoc committee led by Gurung has not been able to complete the session of even one district even after spending more than three years. The hunger strikers have demanded the dissolution of the ad hoc committee led by Gurung, saying that the organization has been run in an arbitrarily manner contrary to the law, that in the name of expanding the organization, they have been working to instigate rebellion in all districts through the cadres close to them, and controversial decisions have been made in a singular manner against the decision of the party.

"In order to ensure the atmosphere of the convention, the current working committee should be dissolved immediately, the organization should be expanded while ensuring inclusive and fair participation and a new ad hoc committee should be formed to hold the convention within the specified time," said central member Rai.

Party spokesperson Prakasharan Mahat has said that the central working committee meeting that will start from Monday will discuss how much time will be given to hold the convention of all the fraternal organizations that have expired including Tarun Dal .

Not only the Tarun Dal, most of the fraternal organizations of the Congress are in disarray after not being able to hold a convention for years. The Farmers' Federation, which started as an ad-hoc committee in November 2006, has been ad-hoc for 18 years. Its convention has not been held since its inception . Tharu and the sports association have been running on ad hocism since its inception. After Mahila Sangh held its convention in 2073 and Dalit Sangh in 2069, no other convention has been held since then. Most of the 13 fraternal organizations of the Congress, which have a three-year term, have run on ad hocism.
