Ruling Congress MP Hridayram Thani has said that political interference in Nepal Police has affected the leadership system.
In the meeting of the State System and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives, MP Thani proposed that a policy should be created to have natural contenders for leadership in the Nepal Police as in the Nepal Army.
In the discussion on the 'Bill to amend the Nepal Police Law' in the meeting of the State Affairs Committee on Wednesday, Thani said that the political interference in the police has created a situation of concern . Referring to the controversial decisions made by the police leadership in the past, he said that the act of weakening the 'chain of command' of the police organization should not be repeated.
MP Thani's proposal was that there should be no political interference within the police organization by making arrangements within the law.
'We have been politicizing the police a lot. There is a situation where we are repeatedly doing the work of destroying the system of Nepal Police in various ways . We removed the IGP after making him 30 years in his 32-year service period, and transferred the Inspector General of Police to another place in 36 days,' Thani said, 'We also have a history of making a junior AIG a month ago and making him IGP . There is also a history of sometimes taking the dispute to the court by making numbers 3 and 2 without making a number. Everyone should pay attention to how the Nepal Police is working in such a situation. In this way, what will happen when we work by keeping the organization that should be run in command and control within politics? Therefore, the chain of command has been affected in the current situation.'
Stating that the Nepal Police has been weakened by political interference, he said that the legal provisions should be tightened.
