I have sent a letter to Finance Minister to amend the budget and 'take or pay': Energy Minister Khadka

Energy Minister Deepak Khadka has informed the Parliament that he has sent a letter to the Ministry of Finance to amend the budget.

Answering the questions raised by MPs during the discussion on the Ministry's allocation in the House of Representatives on Monday, Minister Khadka informed that he has sent a letter to amend 'Take and Pay' in the hydropower sector and make it 'Take or Pay'.

After hydropower promoters and MPs opposed the new policy introduced by the government, the Ministry of Energy has informed that the Ministry of Finance has sent a letter to amend the budget. 'The subject of tech and pay is in discussion . The MPs' questions were also a bit more focused. Based on the opinions and suggestions received from the Nepal Electricity Authority, small hydropower projects up to 10 megawatts as well as large run-of-river projects where electricity consumption or export is guaranteed, as it is appropriate to have a take-or-pay provision in the electricity purchase and sale agreement, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has sent a request to the Ministry of Finance through a letter dated May 27, Minister Khadka said.

Minister Khadka said that the matter in the budget statement will be revised. This came during the budget statement. Enough discussions have been held with the Minister of Finance. I would like to inform you that the ministry and I are confident that this matter will be amended and moved forward,' he said.
