The number of dengue infected people across the country has exceeded 1,400. According to the Department of Health Services Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), the number of dengue infected has reached 1,403 in 6 months (since January) and the infection has spread in 73 districts.

Apart from Rasuwa, Manang, Humla, Dolpa, dengue infection has been confirmed in the remaining 73 districts. In the last week alone, 40 more people have been infected. According to the EDCD, among the seven provinces infected with dengue, Bagmati has 371 people, Koshi 299, Gandaki 251, Lumbini 245, Sudurpaschim 184, Karnali 32 and Madhesh 21. 156 infected people have been found in Kathmandu the most.

According to Shahid Shukraraj Tropical and Communicable Disease Hospital in Teku, Kathmandu, 6 patients admitted with confirmed dengue have returned after undergoing treatment. Director of the hospital, Dr. Yuwanidhi Basaula, said that one or two patients are infected daily among the patients who come to the OPD. "Every day, one or two dengue infected people come for treatment, along with the same number of patients who come for seasonal cold treatment," he said.

Last year dengue infected exceeded 34 thousand. 13 died of infection. In 2080, dengue infection was confirmed in more than 52,000 people across the country. 20 people died and it spread as an epidemic in 2019. It has been 22 years since dengue started appearing continuously in the country. In the financial year 2060/61, one person was found infected with dengue for the first time.

High fever, head, neck, eyeball pain, joint, muscle and back pain are the main symptoms of dengue. However, despite the symptoms of dengue in urban areas, most of the patients do not get tested, but take cetamol saying that they have a headache, back pain, etc. Sher Bahadur Pun says.

Most people living in urban areas now know about dengue. However, there is no habit of conducting tests on time. He himself buys citamol and stays at home,' he said, 'because of which there is a risk of being too late.'

If symptoms of infection such as bleeding from the nose, gums, menstrual bleeding in women, severe abdominal pain, frequent vomiting, difficulty breathing, swelling of the abdomen, legs, etc., should immediately go to the hospital for treatment. There is a suggestion again. Such patients may have to be admitted and treated. If during the X-ray of the patient, there is water in the stomach and chest, swelling of the liver, and a rapid decrease in platelets in the blood, it should be understood as a sign of a complicated infection of dengue,' he said. "The patient needs to pay special attention to this."

According to experts, the dengue virus spreads through mosquitoes of the Aedes species. The Aedes mosquito is especially active in the morning and evening before sunset and transmits the infection more at that time. Experts suggest that this species of mosquito blooms in a small amount of clean, frozen water so that water does not give birth and special attention should be paid to cleanliness.

According to Gorkan Dahal, dengue focal person of EDCD, after the infection started spreading, correspondence has been sent to all local levels to conduct a campaign to 'search and destroy mosquito larvae'. Out of the budget of Rs 79.6 million for the current financial year, Rs 50,000 to Rs 7 lakh has been allocated to the municipality based on the number of dengue infected. We have already distributed 75,000 dengue test kits to government health institutions for dengue testing, he said, but dengue control is not possible with the government alone. It is necessary for the local level, toll development committee, clubs and house owners to pay special attention to cleanliness to control dengue mosquitoes.
