35 Nepalis who were held hostage in Udyadsingh Nagar in Uttarakhand state of India by being lured by the lure of attractive jobs have been rescued. The team of Delhi-based social organization 'Kin India' rescued them with the help of local police.
According to Naveen Joshi, head of 'Kin India', those rescued from Kashipur in Udyaamsingh Nagar district are between 16 and 41 years of age. They were held hostage for two weeks to 10 months. They are from Taplejung, Panchthar, Tehrathum, Ilam, Sunsari, Udaipur, Sarlahi, Dang, Syangja, Rukum, Banke, Baglung and Doti districts. Due to being beaten, it is seen that they have injuries in different parts.
According to Hindustan Daily, 35 Nepali youths were kept in three rooms after being beaten and threatened. Uttamsingh Nagar District Superintendent of Police (SP) Uttamsingh Negi said that the Nepali citizens were rescued after receiving information that they were being held hostage. He also said that Nepali citizens were involved in this criminal act. "We have arrested some and are investigating," he told Kantipur. According to a statement issued by the Udhyamsingh Nagar Police, Birendra Shahi of Dhangadhi and two other Indian citizens who were involved in the incident have been arrested.
It has been found that they are being called from Nepal with the lure of employment and after collecting the money, they are keeping them under torture. According to Joshi, head of 'Kin India', it has been seen that using Nepali people, relatives and acquaintances in Nepal are calling Uttarakhand to get attractive income-generating jobs. After coming to India, they are charged from 20 to 50 thousand baht in the name of making documents.
It has been found that the same group keeps them hanging by saying that the process of sending them to work is going on and later by threatening them, they ask the same person to bring more people from Nepal in contact. "After taking as much financial benefit as possible from one person, it has been found that criminal work is being done by using him to collect money from another person," said Joshi, who is in Kashipur. "Many people are coming from different districts of Nepal to work, we were called saying that this kind of opportunity does not come often," the petition states, "After reaching Uttarakhand, they were locked in a room and forced to call people from Nepal and subjected to physical and mental torture." The embassy also wrote to the Uttarakhand police. "We have rescued 35 Nepalis with the coordination and support of the embassy and the Uttarakhand police," said Joshi, "there are reports that other Nepalis have also been taken hostage, and efforts are being made to rescue them." According to him, a 28-year-old man from Taplejung died in Uttarakhand due to torture.
