We are preparing to rescue Nepalis from Israel and Iran: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba has said that according to the situation developed in Israel and Iran, the Nepali government will adopt all possible measures for the safety and rescue of the Nepali citizens there and is ready to rescue those who want to return to Nepal.

In a joint meeting with the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Home Affairs held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Dr. Rana gave this information during a discussion about the situation and preparations for the ongoing war between Israel and Iran.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Rana informed that the Nepali Embassy in Israel is actively working in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the registration process has been opened for Nepalis who want to return to their country, and preparations are being made for rescue if they want to return to their country.

She said, 'It is Israel's responsibility to facilitate Nepalis who have reached Israel under Jituji process if they want to return to Nepal or go to a safe place. For that, we have requested the Israeli government to help them go to other countries from the border area. If the Nepalese want to return to their country, the government of Nepal is ready for rescue.'

In that meeting, Labor Minister Sharad Singh Bhandari said that the ministry is also in constant contact with the Nepalis who are there and if they want to return to their country, the government should start preparations for rescue. He informed that people who are currently preparing to go to Israel have been stopped without work permits.

On June 13, the day the war between Israel and Iran started, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement appealing to both parties to exercise maximum restraint and resolve the problem through dialogue, and requested the Nepalis in those countries to stay in touch with the respective Nepalese embassies.

Then on June 15, a travel advisory with contact details was issued and Nepalis were requested to exercise maximum caution from the point of view of security. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued instructions to all Nepalese delegations in the Gulf on matters including providing 'online visa' to Nepalis who want to go to safe places or bordering countries while the air route is currently closed in those countries.

In addition, the Ministry has opened an online portal and started collecting the details of Nepalis and more than 600 people have registered their details on the portal so far. This process is ongoing. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a travel advisory for the second time last Wednesday, requesting Nepali citizens currently in Israel and Iran to exercise maximum caution from the point of view of security and not to visit Israel or other countries in the Middle East from Nepal.

This week, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Rana met and requested the Israeli government to make proper arrangements for the security of Nepali citizens.

Similarly, the Nepali embassy in Israel and the Nepali embassy in Qatar facing Iran have been instructed to maintain close contact with the relevant government officials, organizations working there and the Nepali community and to report in real time to the ministry in this regard. Currently, there are 5,500 to 7,000 Nepalis in Israel and most of them are in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa. There are 18 Nepalis in Iran.
