The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the police has started an investigation against Jyoti Bahadur Bhandari, who was involved in misappropriating the funds of Miteri Miteri Savings and Loan Cooperative in Lalitpur, and also for other crimes.
According to CIB sources, Bhandari took two citizenships from Bardiya and Kaski* district administration office on different dates and made two passports based on that. The CIB has started an investigation against him for this offence.
A complaint has also been filed against Jyoti Bahadur in District Police Complex, Kathmandu. According to the police, three different complaints related to fraud have been filed against him.
Jyoti Bahadur Bhandari is being brought to Kathmandu from Cambodia today on the charge of embezzling the funds of Miteri Miteri Savings and Credit Cooperative of Lalitpur. According to immigration sources, Bhandari is going to be brought to Kathmandu from Cambodia via Singapore through Singapore Airlines.
Jyoti Gurung, the wife of Nepali Congress vice-chairman and former minister Dhanraj Gurung, was the general manager of Miteri Sahakari until a few years ago. While she was the general manager, she embezzled the savings of the cooperative and ran away. After both Jyoti Gurung and another accused Jyoti Bahadur Bhandari absconded after misappropriating the money, the police issued a red notice through Interpol and placed them in the absconding list.
It was only after they absconded that the cooperative's savings fraud case became public. According to the initial estimates of the police, Jyoti Bahadur first reached Cambodia via Thailand and then reached Colombo in Sri Lanka.
