After the rain on Tuesday night, when the vehicle got stuck in the mud of Downe and the diversion was carried out by the Vinayi river at Dumkiwas, there was a traffic jam of about 50 km. Under the East-West Highway, there is a jam from Bhutaha in West Nawalparasi to Danda in East Nawalparasi.

The cargo vehicle stuck on the under-construction bridge near Vishwakarma Temple, 3 km west of Dumkiwas, could not be pulled out even till Wednesday evening. On the other hand, there is a long traffic jam up to Chormara as the diversion caused by Binayi river at Dumkiwas could not be repaired on Tuesday night. About 15,000 to 18,000 vehicles, small and large, operate daily on this road section.

Mohandev Nath, who had walked from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi, said that he went to Dumkiwas with his child and got stuck since 2 o'clock in the night. Look at the traffic on the highway. It's been years since the Downing road section has been in such a state, right, the government? Do passengers have to demonstrate on the highway?'' was his question. Ramakant Parajuli, who traveled from Pokhara to Butwal, said that he and his children had been stuck in the traffic jam for 17 hours. "The car doesn't move, it's like it's sick," he said. It is time for the passengers to take out a procession here.

District Police Chief Yadav Dhakal said that the vehicles were stopped at various places in East and West Nawalparasi by placing policemen at various places to prevent traffic jams. "As soon as the road is opened in Downe, we are preparing to operate the transport by giving priority to small vehicles and passenger buses," he said.

The road department has informed that the diversion carried out by the Vinay river is being reconstructed. When there is normal rain, the veals that come to Vinayi river, use to drain the diversion made by adding gravel. After the iron bridge on Vinayi river broke six months ago, traffic is being operated by making a diversion. Division Road Office Chitwan has informed that traffic can be operated from the new bridge from June 22.

Since the Butwal-Narayangadh road expansion started, there has been a traffic problem in the southern section. The old paved roads of Daunne, which are in winding and hilly areas, have been demolished and abandoned. The highway is in ruins due to digging. When there is normal rain in that dust, up to 2-3 feet of mud is frozen. Due to the fact that vehicles get stuck in the mud, there are jams for hours every day.

The Chinese company China State Construction took the contract for 16.99 billion rupees in Chait 2075 for the expansion of the first section of 65 km from Gandakot to Downe and the second section of Downe-Butwal 49 km. According to the contract, the work should have been completed by July 079. But due to the lack of construction materials and covid-19, the deadline was extended for the first time till 11 July 080. After that, the deadline has been extended twice till 8 July 082. But even with about a month left for the deadline, the work is not ready to be completed. Even after the construction is completed, there is an agreement that the businessmen who take the contract for 5 years will have to maintain the road.
