52 Years of Hijacking: Vinod Aryal's Revolutionary Flight

The morning of June 28, 2030, that is today. The sky of Biratnagar Airport was hot. At that time, when the desire for democracy was bubbling in the politics of Nepal, there was a tide of rebellion in every young mind. A revolutionary character of that revolt was Vinod Aryal of Biratnagar. He was a fearless and courageous young man of around 30 years.

That morning he was in the final preparations to complete a 'special task' with some other comrades. It was a daring kidnapping case. Which is famous as the first plane hijacking in the history of South Asia. "That plan was not for greed, it was for the re-establishment of democracy", said Aryal, who is approaching 90 years of age, "It was a continuation of the armed revolution started by the Congress". It was a revolution against the monarchy.'

After arriving from Kathmandu and landing, it was preparing to return to Kathmandu again, Nepal Air Service Corporation's TwinOtter aircraft 9-NABB . The ship was starting at Biratnagar Airport. Three more passengers boarded that ship along with others. They were, Durga Subedi, Vasant Bhattarai and Nagendra Dhungel .

The responsibility of devising another plan inside the plane was on the shoulders of Vinod Aryal . So he was already on his way to Farbisganj along with some of his comrades . The ship was waiting to land at Farbisganj. Because after landing the ship, the responsibility of safely unloading the money was on his shoulders .

The ship that flew to Kathmandu almost always delivered the amount of the bank to Kathmandu . The ship has sailed . Within a few minutes, Durga Subedi entered the cockpit. And showing a revolver in his hand, he said to the pilots, "You see, this is what a hijack is." After giving respectful instructions to pilot RK Manandhar, co-pilot Sridev Vaidya and crew member GV Rai, the crew flew the westbound ship  It turned towards the sky of India through east-south.

There was no airport near Farbisgunj. However, the Congress workers prepared to land the ship in the open grassland. Where the descent path was carved with lime . After Durga showed the landing path, the plane finally landed on the same ground . The ship landed . Just as a jeep was moving towards the plane. There were five to seven people in the jeep. But, from Zip  Only humor came out. His  The face was half covered . He had a revolver in his left hand. After the kidnappers disembarked, Vinod Aryal entered the ship.

He pointed to the pilot and said, 'As soon as the work is done, I will signal, fly the plane, otherwise you will crash the ship.' He took out the boxes placed on the front of the ship. After taking out the box containing 30 million Indian rupees, Vinod turned his revolver and said, "Now you can go." In a moment, the ship rose again to the sky. "At that moment I did not commit any dacoity", Antila Vinod remembers that moment of hijacking the plane, "I helped for the political revolution". After the

incident, the security agencies of both India and Nepal were shocked. But Vinod remembers that the quiet morning of that day took an unimaginable turn in Nepali history. Vinod was arrested in India after the incident. He spent a few years in an Indian prison. Spent . But he easily accepted the prison nail and persecution as "the price of the revolution".

Leaders like Sushil Koirala, Chakra Bastola, Manohari Baral were also included in the revolution like Vinod. The hijacked ship disappeared 12 years ago. Many of his comrades have passed away. But Vinod Aryal is still living old memories. Vinod said, "Even when I remember that incident now, I feel angry", "by what energy was that step taken?" I am surprised when I remember it now .'

Carrying 30 lakhs of money, they directly passed through Bengal and turned north from Siliguri. Reached Darjeeling using Pankhabari road. BP Koirala instructed to give the said money to NK Sharma of Darjeeling.

According to journalist Jagat Nepal, BP's son Prakash Koirala was busy planning the kidnapping, while his brother Shekhar Koirala was going to fly to Kathmandu after booking the ticket of the same TwinOtter. If the ticket was not canceled at the last moment, Shekhar was sure to be kidnapped. A lot of things could have been done with 30 lakh rupees stolen at that time . After the incident, banks started chartering helicopters instead of airplanes for transporting large amounts of money. By the time the plane landed in Farbisgunj and returned, the security agencies of both Nepal and India were not alerted.

The main mastermind behind the kidnapping was Girijaprasad Koirala. Sushilkoirala, Chakrabastola, Manoharibaral, Madanaryal etc. were actively involved with him. Today among them Girijaprasad, Baral, Captain R.K. Manandhar and co-driver Sreedevavaidya have passed away.

Vinod was a frontline fighter of the armed revolution of 2007. In the same movement, he lost his right hand in an explosion. Vinod says that the weapon was bought with the money looted from the TwinOtter kidnapping. At that time, the liberation struggle was going on in East Pakistan (today's Bangladesh).

Chakrabastola, Vinod and other leaders supported the war. The revelation of arms with the Nepali Congress reached the Indian socialist leader Jaiprakash Narayan. He asked for help from Bangladesh through BP Koirala. At first Girijababu did not agree,' Vinod remembers, 'but he agreed only after Jayprakash gave a guarantee that he would 'return double'.' After that, to deliver all the weapons bought, Chakra Bastola and other leaders, he went south to Bangladesh via Bhadrapur east of Jhapa.

Bitterness after closeness with Girija

Vinod was Girijababu's right hand. He used to take Vinod with him wherever he went. "To be honest, I wouldn't go anywhere without Girijababu", Vinod said. Girija uncle, he nephew. The very close Girijababu-Vinod relationship developed over time.

2007 The revolution of the year, 30 years of joining hands against the panchayat and the relationship between them who started the revolution said after the multi-party  Bitterness arose. There was a special root, MP's ticket. In the 2048 general election, Vinod aspired to become the Morang 5 Watt candidate. He went to meet Girijababu. However, he was not given a ticket. That time, he said, "It's okay".

However, in the 2051 election, there was an attempt to oust him . Vinod "rebelled" after making a candidate from the Tharu community. Girija's efforts to remind him many times were in vain. When he came to Viratnagar, he called all the village councilors of Morang to Koirala residence and used a whip to defeat Vinod in any way possible. Girija had said at that time, "Winning with humor is what I mean and  The whole party has to lose.' After saying this, Vinod was going to have a problem.

Vinod was encouraged by Kamal Koirala, the only communist of the Koirala family. However, Kamal's efforts alone did not pass . Vinod finally suffered a humiliating defeat . After that the graph of bitter relationship with Girija increased further . Vinod said, "I got sick after the election and then I never wanted to be active in politics." If Girijababu had helped me, I would have been active in politics even today.
