The under-construction Hulaki road, known as the second national highway of Nepal, has now become Pahelpur with corn biscuits. The black road from Biratnagar to Jhapa is like a bed of corn biscuits covered with yellow stalks.

A tractor is stopped on the road. There the thresher is humming. And sacks of maize and biscuits are laid on the side. Drying maize on the road has become an obligation for farmers. But the same compulsion has increased the risk of road accidents.

Mohammad Alam, a farmer of Rangeli in Morang, says, "There is no open place for drying in the village". That's why it is our obligation to dry it on the road. According to him, the rainy season has started and the possibility of the corn drying up and rotting increases. "We are forced to keep the thresher on the road," he added, "we have no other option."

Local residents say that the risk of accidents has doubled due to dried biscuits on the road. A girl died in an accident caused by biscuits. As many as half a dozen have been injured.  On May 5th, a 13-year-old girl died in an accident in Rangeli 7 Nichamari due to a dried biscuit on the road.

was the cause of the accident, dried biscuits covering the road.  The girl died in an accident while moving the tractor through Biskun.  Just last week, two youths were injured when their motorcycle slipped on Biskun in Sunavarsi, Morang. Ajay Singh, the former principal of Jahda Rural Municipality, broke his arm when his motorcycle slipped on the Biskun.

In the last few years, farmers have increased their investment in maize cultivation. The production has also been good . However, there is a lack of places to dry corn. Because of this, they have made a yard to dry the black-covered road.

After frequent accidents due to biscuits, the Rangeli Municipality issued a notice prohibiting the drying of food on public roads . However, the decision had to be withdrawn as farmers could not resist. "After the dissatisfaction of the farmers, the municipality has corrected the old decision after the all-party consensus", Deputy Chief Jhumakumari Parajuli said, "The highway  It has been decided that only 20 percent of the area will be allowed to dry biscuits.

Farmers have been saying that they are forced to dry their biscuits on the road due to lack of alternative places. It is known that the road is public property. But until the state makes an alternative arrangement for us, we cannot remove the bisques from the road," said Madhulal Gangai, a farmer of Sunavarshi Municipality.
