The government is going to give priority to economic diplomacy in foreign policy. For that, a new structure has been established in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry said that the 'Economic Diplomacy' division has been formed to connect international relations with Nepal's economic sector and to focus on that work.

The Ministry has increased its 10 divisions to 15. Along with economic diplomacy, Public Diplomacy and Labor Immigration and Nepali Diaspora Coordination Division has been established. Likewise, a new North and South America division has been formed, separated from the international organization and international law division and the Europe and America division.

The government added 111 posts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs last year. After the government approved the Organization and Management of Foreign Affairs (O&M), the posts of 11 joint secretaries and essential staff have been added to the ministry. Divisions have been added accordingly.

Joint Secretary of the Ministry Krishna Prasad Dhakal said that a new structure has been created to give priority to the economic sector. Since the 90s, he has been working in the field of economic diplomacy in one form or another. However, there was no dedicated division for that," he said. "Because of the need for a structure dedicated to that work, the Economic Diplomacy Division has been created."

The foreign policy introduced by the government in 2077 also mentions that economic diplomacy will be prioritized. The aim of the policy is to mobilize development aid and increase foreign investment, export trade and tourism promotion, and achieve effective results through economic diplomacy. Spokesman Dhakal said that economic diplomacy will play a positive role in facilitating the necessary work, including finding the world market for domestic products, getting information about the possibility of business promotion through the embassy.

The Ministry has taken the policy of conducting economic diplomacy to promote economic development, trade promotion, tourism development and investment. The Division will coordinate with the Nepali missions abroad and unpaid Consul Generals. The aim of the department is to expand economic relations and partnerships in view of the country's interests, to implement the country's economic strategy through foreign policy, and to contribute to the development of the national economy by bringing in investments.

Furthermore, the department has taken the aim of taking initiatives related to quota customs exemption so that Nepal can get maximum benefits, and as a least developed country, to take initiatives to make maximum use of customs and quota-free facilities. From facilitating the solution of customs, non-customs barriers and transit problems to diplomatic coordination to ensure the export of Nepali products, the foreign policy has put it under the scope of economic diplomacy.

Earlier, the work of economic diplomacy was being looked at by the Department of Policy, Plan Development, Diplomacy and Nepali Affairs Abroad. Now, the new division created under the leadership of the joint secretary for economic diplomacy will also work on policy, legal and structural reforms necessary for bringing in investment or exporting Nepali goods.

Labor Immigration and Nepali Diaspora Coordination Division will work to protect the interests of the Nepali community engaged in profession, business and employment abroad. The same department will also look at issues related to non-resident Nepalis. Likewise, the Public Diplomacy Division will play a role in enhancing the identity and representation of Nepal in international and regional forums.

Nepal's uniqueness, natural beauty, civilization, social diversity, art, culture and other topics will be promoted through public diplomacy to increase the country's image, said Dhakal, the spokesperson of the ministry.
