Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that the trend of pushing women's leadership back is still there. He said that coalition politics is reducing the opportunity of women's leadership even more.
Addressing the National Conference of Deputy Heads and Vice-Presidents of local level on Friday in Biratnagar. Bhandari emphasized that political parties should promote women leadership strongly to protect democratic values and inclusiveness. Women are able to get primary leadership seats when there is a coalition. This has affected the activism and status of women," she said.
Bhandari pointed out that policy and operational initiatives are necessary to make the role of women representatives elected at the local level more effective. She said that women's perspective and sensitivity are very important in development and economic prosperity and emphasized the need for coordinated leadership. Talking to journalists after the
program, Bhandari said that she is active in politics. When asked about the possible role of the party leadership, she said, "You will know when the time comes."
