For the first time in Nepal, a bird of the 'Malbar Whistling' species has been recorded. The bird was seen on Friday in the Lumbini cable car station area near Golpark in Rupandehi, Lumbini province.

Deubadur Rana and Amrit Nepali, project officers of Nepal Bird Conservation Association, saw this strange blue bird during bird watching. It has a distinct 'V'-shaped bright blue spot on its forehead, a bright blue shoulder patch and a black beak.

After the observation, the photos and videos they took were sent to the ornithologists of Birdlife International and the Bombay Natural History Society, India. Officer Rana said that after detailed study and comparison, the bird was confirmed to be Malabar Whistling.

'This is the first official record of this species of bird in Nepal,' he said. This bird is only found in Western Ghats and Central India.
