Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of New Zealand is visiting Nepal

New Zealand's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters is coming on an official visit to Nepal. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he will stay in Kathmandu for two days on May 14 and 15.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this is the first visit to Nepal by a high-level political leader like the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister from New Zealand.

Joint Secretary of the ministry Krishna Dhakal said that the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of New Zealand is going to have a friendly official visit. Peters is coming to Nepal after visiting Sri Lanka. After visiting Nepal, he will visit India.

In the press statement released by the New Zealand government, it is mentioned that Peters will travel to Australia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and India. This is the first visit of New Zealand's foreign minister to Sri Lanka since 2013. New Zealand has said that it has a special relationship with Nepal.

Edmund Hillary, a citizen of New Zealand, and Tenzing Sherpa, a Nepali citizen, climbed Mount Everest in 1953. According to Dhakal, the spokesperson of the ministry, Foreign Minister NP Saud visited New Zealand last year.

'There is a friendly and historic relationship between the two countries. "Bilateral visits have been exchanged to increase relations and cooperation," he said.

1200 students from Nepal are studying in New Zealand. Likewise, the number of Nepalis living there for business and going there for employment is also increasing. The New Zealand government has been supporting the development of the Himalayan region in the areas of education and health.

Similarly, it also assisted in the relief work after the devastating earthquake of 2072. Both countries do not have each other's embassies. The embassy of New Zealand in Delhi has been looking at Nepal. 

While in Kathmandu, Peters will have a courtesy meeting with President Ramchandra Poudel, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The ministry has mentioned that it will hold a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba.
