The Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Tirtharaj Bhattarai has been taken into custody by the Abuse of Authority Investigation Commission. A few days ago, the authority arrested Bhattarai and took him to the office in Tangal.
Bhattarai, who is the head of the Tribhuvan International Airport office and an immigration officer, was suddenly transferred to the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday evening. After transferring him, Home decided to send Chief District Officer of Panchthar Bishnu Prasad Koirala as Chief Immigration Officer. According to the source, the authority has been investigating the matter since a few weeks ago, and the Home Office hastily transferred Bhattarai after finding a needle to raid the airport immigration.
There has been a complaint that the amount raised in the setting from going on a visit visa is 'up to the top'. But the authority source said that it is not possible to say more because the matter is under investigation.
Bhattarai was dragged into the investigation after a complaint was filed against him for allegedly extorting money from people traveling to countries including Dubai on a visit visa from Nepal. Then on Wednesday he was detained by the authority for investigation.
Bhattarai is now in the custody of the authorities for questioning. According to the airport immigration source, the authority has also taken documents including computers from the airport under control.
Sources told that the authority has also received a complaint that they send up to 400 people on visit visas and charge 20,000 to 40,000 rupees per person.
