Around 7 kg of gold has been recovered from Rasuwa customs post. The said amount of gold was recovered in the container brought with apples from Kerung. Rasuwa Customs Office Chief Tulsi Prasad Bhattarai informed Kantipur that 7 biscuits and some small pieces of gold were recovered.
According to Chief Bhattarai, the weight of recovered gold is about 7 kg 600 grams. He said that the gold was recovered during a search at the checkpoint based on the suggestion that the gold was coming from the border Chinese market Kerung. He says that gold is kept by making a false bottom near the driver's seat.
The police have said that the driver has been detained and further investigation is being conducted into the incident. The customs office has also informed that the gold has been taken to the bank for further examination. Lately, since Tribhuvan International Airport has been tightened, smugglers have started using the northern border for gold smuggling.
