Meeting between the Minister of Forestry and the Special Envoy of Qatar: Nepal is ready for a long-term strategic partnership in the field of innovation

A meeting was held between the Minister of Forests and Environment, Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, and the Special Envoy and Deputy Minister for Climate Change and Sustainable Management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Badr Umar Al Dafa, on Saturday. Forest Minister Shahi and Qatar's special envoy Al Dafa met on the occasion of the first edition of 'Sagarmatha Dialogue 2025' organized by the Nepal government.

During the meeting, Forest Minister Shahi said that Nepal is ready to hold formal discussions with Qatar to establish a long-term strategic partnership in the field of innovation. "Nepal is ready to formally discuss a special agreement for long-term strategic partnership in the field of forest and environmental technology transfer, pollution control and innovation," he said in the meeting. He said that Nepal expects a leadership role and support in establishing climate finance, technology and damage and loss funds from Qatar.

"It seems that Qatar's role in increasing climate finance will be important by cooperating in the carbon trading system, emphasizing technology and innovation in climate adaptation, forest management, restoration of biological pathways, wildlife conservation," he said, "Nepal has highly respected and appreciated Qatar's leadership and commitment in global climate change initiatives."

Sagarmatha dialogue which started on May 2nd is ending on 3rd . Nepal is having a comprehensive discussion on 'climate change, mountains and human future'. Where ministerial representatives of 12 countries and representatives of about 40 countries have participated.
