Prime Minister and CPN-UML President KP Sharma Oli has claimed that he had to take strict measures to save the party after the leaders within the party conspired to split.
Addressing the Madan-Ashrit Memorial Day program held in Balkhu on Saturday, Oli alleged that after the unification of the CPN (UML-Maoist Centre), the intention of some leaders is to destroy the CPN.
'In 074-075, we brought the party to a strong and nearly two-thirds majority,' said Oli, 'but some selfish and self-centered elements became active within the party. They were upstaged by external forces and ultimately created infighting within the party.'
Oli targeted United Samajwadi Party president Madhav Kumar Nepal and accused him of creating conflict within the party by working for others. He said that there was an attempt to topple the government along with other elements in the parliament and because of that UML had to take a tough decision strategically.
He said, 'The party was attacked through the court and parliament. We have taken special measures to protect. From where I was expelled three years ago, today I am back there, under the leadership of the government, with status.'
Oli has now said that the UML is advancing strongly and the situation in the government is 'achieving even though it is not an easy situation'. He clarified at the end, 'We came with the intention of unification of the CPN, but they have come with the intention of disintegration. That's why we saved the party.'
