469 Nepali people have been unemployed since 8 months in Sendan International Company Limited located in Jubail, Eastern region of Saudi Arabia. According to the Nepali Embassy in Riyadh, the Nepali workers became jobless after the company collapsed.
According to the embassy, there is a problem because they do not have the exit visa (exit permit) required to send them to Nepal. Nepalese workers in the
company have appealed to rescue them as soon as possible and send them to Nepal. In this context, Bal Bahadur Rai of Solukhumbu and Karki of Kantipur:
It has been 28 months since I came to work at Sendan International Company Limited in Saudi Arabia. This company used to send us to do construction and maintenance work related to oil production and processing of Saudi Aramco, the largest government company in Saudi Arabia. We will work in Saudi Aramco. However, the salary was given by Sendan. Sendan will supply labor to Saudi Aramco.
This company is very big. Saudi Aramco has projects everywhere. It used to sit here and there. We used to work in Scaffolder. We didn't realize when the company was slowly falling into crisis. Friends who knew, they left the company and started walking. Someone changed the company and went to another company. Someone returned home in time. Now we 469 Nepalis are like stranded.
We were working honestly. All business of the company was closed. Our residence visa was not renewed. Salary also stopped coming. We worked without pay until February. Then the work stopped. We were waiting for the company to send it home. We all kept quiet because the
company would send it. The company said that your work will be done tomorrow, the next day. Three months ago, fingerprints of 206 people were taken for the purpose of obtaining exit visas.
Three of the six camps have been closed. The rest has been brought to three companies. Now there are 8 months left to get salary. The condition of many is not good. The food problem is increasing. We are eating only dal and rice. It's been months since I saw any greens. I don't know how long it will be given.
We, the people who came to earn, have become unemployed ourselves. Couldn't send money home. There is not a penny to spend daily here. The heat is increasing. Not making AC. We are cleaning the camp ourselves.
Some friends have also started falling ill. No money for medicine. There is no introduction to treatment. Blood pressure, sugar medicine should be taken. The day the visa ends, the medical insurance ends. 100% must be done by us. No hot food. Now the situation is very critical. The water is not cold. The summer is getting hotter. Water is brought outside from the tanker. Bring it full in the morning and drink it in the evening.
