The first edition of 'Sagarmatha Samvad-2025', which is going to be organized by the Government of Nepal, is starting from Friday in Kathmandu. 175 foreign guests are participating in the multi-stakeholder forum 'Sagarmatha Samvad' established by the government.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed that a total of 350 foreign and local people will participate in the three-day Everest Dialogue. Through the dialogue, Nepal aims to raise important issues of the world, regional and national importance/interest and discuss them in depth.
This dialogue forum is named after the highest peak in the world, which is in Nepal, 'E55.' 13 different sessions will be conducted on 5 themes in Sagarmatha Samvad.
What happens on the first day ? The first Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will inaugurate the
program. Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba will deliver the welcome speech. Likewise, the leaders of the delegations of China and India and the President of COP-29 and the President of Azerbaijan will address the program. The Secretary General of the United Nations will address the program through a video message. After the
opening, the sessions will be conducted as per schedule . There will be a keynote speaker and a facilitator who will be the speaker in the three-day discussion.
On the first day, four parallel sessions will be held on the theme of Theme 1: Beyond Mountains: Linking Mountains to Ocean.
Parallel Session 1: Urgency of 1.5 Degree Ambition for Preservation of Glaciers, Parallel Session 2: Connecting Highlands to Islands, Parallel Session 3: Food Security and Climate Change Resilient Agriculture and Parallel Session 4: Community-Led Climate Initiatives in the Mountains will be discussed.
What happens on the second day ? On the second day of the
program, there will be seven parallel sessions on four themes on Saturday (June 3). Theme 2: Green Economy, Theme 3: Averting, Minimizing and Addressing Loss and Damage and Theme 4: Climate Justice and the Future of Humanity will be discussed.
Theme 5: There will be a multi-stakeholder round table (discussion) on global and regional partnerships. It will discuss Ecosystem Services: Recognize, Respect and Reward, Climate Induced Disasters: Risk Reduction and Resilience and Innovative Climate and Carbon Financing.
Similarly, Parallel Session 5: Empowering the Future: Harnessing Clean Energy, Parallel Session 6: Exploring Nature, Culture and Adventure in the Mountains, Parallel Session 7: Mountain Risk Assessment and Monitoring, Parallel Session 8: Harm and Addressing Loss and Damage in the Mountains, Parallel Session 9: Sustainable Cities and Communities, Parallel Session 10: Building an Inclusive Future: Gender and Intergenerational Equity, Parallel Session 12: Sustaining Mountain Economy and Parallel Session 13: Unlocking Youth Potential in Science, Technology, and Innovation is the topic. On the second day, there is a ministerial meeting for high-level cooperation.
Last day of 'Sagarmatha Samvad-2025' announcement
On the last day of Sagarmatha Samvad, there is a program to announce 'Sagarmatha Samvad 2025' . But before the announcement is made public, on Sunday morning, the invited guests will be given an aerial view of Mount Everest. In addition, courtesy meetings and talks with the Prime Minister and counterpart ministers, and sightline meetings have also been arranged, according to the Foreign Ministry.
