After the earthquake of 2072 destroyed the old house, Rajkumar Singh Maharjan and his wife Gunumaya Maharjan built a two-storied house out of zinc sheets and iron rods, naming it RR Complex at the same place for commercial purposes.
According to the Maharjan family, there were 28 commercial shutters in the RR complex, 14 on the ground floor and 14 on the upper floor. Six of those shutters were empty. "We have lost more than two million rupees. "I don't know how much damage has been done to the shops operating there," said Gunumaya Maharjan, "If the government does something, yes, otherwise we will drown." Our source of income is nothing but this building.' They had not insured the complex.
District Police Complex Kathmandu Police Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Apilraj Bohra said that when the Kalpana boutique on the ground floor of the complex caught fire at 5:20 am this morning, the two-storey house of Kalpana Maharjan also caught fire. Due to which the sweet shop of Gnanamati Devi Gupta was also burnt.
The police said that the fire was fully controlled at 7:30 a.m. by deploying six fire engines. The police also said that more details of the damage are being collected. The Maharjan family has alleged that the fire started because the iron was on in the boutique.
