The parliamentarians have expressed their displeasure with the contractor's attitude saying that the work of the federal parliament building under construction in Singha Darbar could not be completed on time.

Speaking at a meeting of the State Directors Principles, Policies and Responsibilities Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Committee meeting held at Singhdarbar on Thursday to discuss the progress of the federal parliament building under construction at Singha Darbar, the MPs said that the contractor has not failed the government. In the

committee meeting, Nepali Congress MP Dilendra Prasad Badu said that the work on the Parliament building was not completed on time due to the weakness of the contractor. He said that the work could not be completed because the contractor did not start the work on time and did not use the required manpower. He mentioned that the absence of work even when there is no lack of necessary budget is worrying.

He said, 'If a project should be prepared, the date, manpower, and conditions should be fixed. There is no weakness on the part of the government, the amount has also been paid. But if there is a situation where the contractor does not hire manpower on time, and is unable to ask, then we should question why this mistake happened.'

Chief Whip of CPN (Maoist Center) Hitraj Pandey criticized the government saying that the country is run by contractors. He said that due to the current progress of the Parliament building, there is no possibility of completing the work even within the extended time. He stressed that the government should take action against those who do not act according to their obligations.

He said, 'Looking at the work, it does not seem to be completed on time. As we have said many times, this is the proof that the country is run by contractors. Now the government should not extend the deadline, but take action against those who are not responsible. There is no option to cancel the contract and take action with penalty.'

Nepali Congress MP Dev Prasad Timalsina said that the progress of the construction should be strictly monitored every week. He said that if there is no strictness, the building will not be built even in the extended period. He claimed that the lack of work despite the money was a sign that the contractor had defrauded the state.

He said, 'Gourav's plans should be completed on time. A progress report should be strictly checked every 7 days. Manpower, investment and daily progress should be monitored regularly. Otherwise, you have to go to the option of breaking the contract or paying a fine.'

CPN (UML) Member of Parliament Lal Prasad Sawa Limbu said that there is a tendency of the state to keep extending the contract period and contractors who do not work in the contract process. He said that although there is no immediate situation to break the contract, if the work is not completed within 200 days, action should be taken according to law.

He said, 'The tendency of the contract process is a problem. We keep extending the deadline, they stay idle. Now a concrete assessment should be made. If the work is not completed even in 200 days, then according to the law, the process of canceling the contract or imposing a penalty should be carried forward.'

On October 1, 2076, the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Parliament building. The building, which was contracted with the goal of completion within three years, is still incomplete after five and a half years.
