The 62nd annual report of the Auditor General has shown that one hundred and four thousand hectares of forest area has been encroached upon. The General Account's report released on Wednesday showed that 4 thousand 39.12 hectares of encroached land within the protected area by the Ministry of Forestry and Environment could not be returned.

"In 65 districts, 140,000 hectares of forest area has been encroached," the report said.

Section 49 of the Forest Act, 2076 states that trespassing on the national forest area is considered a punishable crime. Forest Encroachment Strategy, 2068 is being implemented to control encroachment. The ministry and its subordinate agencies have suggested that the forest area should be protected to stop forest encroachment and take back the encroached area.
