The Auditor General's report has raised questions about the slow progress in the distribution of national identity cards. In the policy and program of the financial year 2080/81, the campaign to distribute identity cards to all citizens was said to be conducted within one year, but the report said that it was not done.
It is mentioned in the report that only 867,000 brochures were distributed till the audited period last year. According to the report, out of which the details of 1 crore 52 lakh 7 thousand people were collected, 43 lakh 28 thousand identity cards were printed and only 20 percent of them were distributed. It has been suggested in the report of the Auditor General that the work should be completed on time according to the work plan.
It has been pointed out in the report that according to the Home Administration Reform Action Plan, 2078, the collection of information for 20 million citizens and the distribution of national identity cards to 10 million citizens within 2 years has not been done.
The government has launched a campaign to require all citizens to get identity cards by developing an integrated national identification management information system that includes personal and biological details of citizens.
