The Ministry of Education has banned the distribution of Foreign Study Permission Certificate (NOC) for students going to study in South Korea.
The Ministry of Education issued a statement on Tuesday and said that the process of issuing NOC for South Korea has been postponed for the time being. According to the ministry, there is a problem of non-continuity in studies due to students going to study in South Korea giving more priority to employment.
"There is a problem of enrolling in universities with less study time, problems in continuing studies due to the priority of earning money, mental problems and depression in those who cannot find a job, and students are also dropping out of universities that are blacklisted by the Korean government," the statement said.
The Ministry has said that NOC distribution had to be postponed due to the need to regulate the arrangements for going to study in Korea. According to the Ministry of Education, a working group has been formed to regulate and manage it and further decisions will be made based on the recommendation of the working group.
South Korea is among the 10 countries where most Nepali students go to study abroad. According to the Ministry of Education data, 6,889 people took NOC for South Korea in the last financial year. At that time, 1 lakh 12 thousand 593 students had taken NOC to study abroad.
The Ministry of Education has provided NOCs for 94 subject studies in 66 countries. From July 2080 to the end of June 2081, the highest number of 34,731 people took foreign study permits for Japan, according to the Ministry of Education. After Japan, the attraction of Nepali students is Canada, Australia, UK, USA, South Korea etc. 15 thousand 982 students to study in Canada, 14 thousand 372 students to study in Australia, 13 thousand 339 students to study in UK, 11 thousand 261 students to study in America have taken NOC.
