Dal Bahadur Kunwar of Karnali Sports Club has won the title of the sixth Jumla Rara Ultra Marathon which started from Khalanga, the headquarters of Jumla. On the men's side, Kunwar and on the women's side, Kalpana Budha of Karnali Sports Club won the title.
23-year-old Kunwar of Tatopani rural municipality 7 covered the distance of 51 kilometers in 5 hours 53 minutes 57 seconds. Kunwar's Polta, who also won the title in the fifth edition of the Jumla Rara Marathon, also won the title of the sixth marathon. Kunwar is a runner of Karnali Sports Club. Kalpana Budha, runner of Karnali Sports Club for women, won the title by crossing the prescribed distance in 7 hours 51 minutes 31 seconds.
On the men's side, Subedar Homalal Shrestha of the Nepali Army won the second place and Som Bahadur Rawat of the Karnali Sports Club won the third place. 42-year-old Shrestha covered the distance in 6 hours, 7 minutes and 55 seconds. Som Bahadur Rawat who finished third finished in 6 hours 10 minutes 04 seconds.
In the fourth, Chandra Bahadur Rawat of Karnali Sports Club covered the distance in 6 hours 19 minutes 28 seconds. By covering the distance in 6 hours 31 minutes 42 seconds, Sher Bahadur Budha managed to secure the fifth place.
20-year-old Rajyalakshmi Rawal of Jumla was the runner-up for women. She completed the distance in 8 hours 48 minutes 41 seconds. Sandipa Budha finished third with a time of 8 hours 46 minutes 2 seconds. Pusa Budha, who was fourth, completed the distance in 9 hours, 37 minutes, 07 seconds, and Anisha Gurung, who managed to become fifth, completed the distance in 11 hours, 7 minutes, and 25 seconds. Winners of the Jumla Rara Ultra Marathon were awarded at the side of Rara Lake. Cash certificates and medals were given to the first prize winners, Rs 75,000 to the second prize and Rs 50,000 to the third prize. 35,000 was awarded to the fourth runner.
Karnali Sports Club president Saroj Shahi informed that the marathon which is being organized continuously to develop adventure sports tourism in Karnali and to introduce Karnali to the world has increased the enthusiasm of the athletes. 591 athletes participated in Jumla Rara Ultra Marathon. Out of which 4 were foreign players. Players from 10 districts of Nepal participated.
World record runner Hari Bahadur Rokaya said that Jumla Rara can become not only a marathon but also a destination for adventure tourism. He said, "The players who come here are not just coming to race. They are also coming to enjoy the beauty of Karnali. This marathon has become a good medium for them.'
