The victims of the armed conflict staged a dharna at the office of the Human Rights Commission, Pulchowk. Leeli Thapa, a member of the recommendation committee of the inquiry committee of the investigation of disappeared persons, expressed dissatisfaction with the names of the two commissions formed to finalize the transitional justice, and they staged a sit-in at the commission on Sunday.
Alleging that Thapa, a member of the recommendation committee, recommended the names on a party basis, the victims staged a dharna at the office of the commission. The victims have said that if their demands are not met, they will lock the office and form a parallel truth commission and move forward.
While the recommendation committee meeting was sitting at Singh Darbar, the victims staged a sit-in at Maitighar and held a protest rally on Saturday as well, demanding that the party workers not accept the appearance commission formed by the government and the party-controlled process.
Just a few days ago, the representatives of various organizations of the conflict victims had met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and submitted a letter of attention to draw the attention of the government to recommend to the president and members of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate the disappeared persons and to recommend a person who can be trusted by the victims without being party-oriented.
